Utility work will require lane closures on Hwy. 338 (Baseline Road)

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Utility work will require lane closures on Highway 338 (Baseline Road) in Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Central Arkansas Water will perform utility work at the intersection of Baseline Road and Distribution Drive. The work will reduce westbound traffic on Baseline Road to one lane, the center lane, between Production Drive and Distribution Drive. 

The lane closures will be Monday, May 5th through Wednesday, May 7th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

Bridge maintenance will require lane closures on I-630

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Bridge maintenance will require lane closures on Interstate 630 in Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will perform maintenance on the Jonesboro Street and Fair Park Boulevard overpasses. The work will reduce westbound traffic on Interstate 630 to one lane. The inside and center lanes will be closed between mile markers 2 and 4.

The lane closures will be Sunday, May 4th between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

THV11 News sat down with six teenage students at Sylvan High School in Sherwood, Arkansas. They admit, texting and driving is a big temptation for teenagers like themselves. "I don't do it all the time but sometimes I do text and drive and I admit that it is dangerous," Antonius Russell says.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 71 percent of teens and young people say they have sent text messages while driving and 78 percent of them have read a text message while driving.

Arkansas panel OKs projects for Pulaski Co. roads

MAUMELLE, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved bids for improvements to two busy roadways in central Arkansas.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department announced Tuesday that the commission awarded a $2.1 million contract to resurface 6.2 miles of Maumelle Boulevard in Maumelle. The work will extend west from Interstate 430 to Murphy Drive.

The commission also awarded a $267,000 contract to resurface nearly 1 mile of McCain Boulevard in North Little Rock. The work will extend east from North Hills Boulevard to U.S. 67.

Work on both projects is expected to begin in the next two to four weeks. The North Little Rock project is expected to be complete this spring with the Maumelle project wrapping up this fall.

Program to improve Arkansas highways to begin

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Highway Commission and the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will officially begin a highway construction program with a proclamation ceremony.

The ceremony will be Wednesday in Little Rock to mark the first of 31 highway projects to be constructed under the $1.8 billion Connecting Arkansas Program. The program is funded with a 10-year, half-cent sales tax that was approved by voters in 2012.

The first project is a six-mile portion of the new Bella Vista Bypass from Bentonville to Hiwasse in northwestern Arkansas. The Bella Vista Bypass is a multi-phased project to construct two lanes of an ultimate 19-mile four-lane Interstate.

The other 30 projects include widening and improvement to highways statewide.

AHTD research will close lanes on I-430 in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Research work will require lane closures on Interstate 430 in Little Rock., according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be testing the friction of the driving surface. The work will affect the northbound and southbound outside lanes of Interstate 430 between Highway 10 (Cantrell Road) and the Arkansas River.

The lane closures will be Thursday, April 10th, weather permitting.  The northbound outside lane closure will be between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  The southbound outside lane closure will be between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.
