Salvation Army funds memorial scholarships with golf tournament

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Salvation Army of Central Arkansas will host a press conference at 10 AM, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Burns Park Golf Course in North Little Rock.

The Salvation Army of Central Arkansas is hosting their first Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Burns Park Golf Course on June 27. This event will benefit college scholarships given in the memory of Majors Philip Wise and Richard Brittle. The event includes lunch provided by Golden Corral, door prizes, and participation gifts.

Clinton Foundation, Arkansas Baptist College announce Hoop Jams

WHAT:
The William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Arkansas Baptist College (ABC) have joined together to bring Hoop Jams, a two-day, three-on-three basketball tournament, to central Arkansas.  

The Clinton Center and ABC share a common commitment to the community, and created Hoop Jams to help fund their missions. Net proceeds from Hoop Jams will benefit educational outreach and community development programs of both entities.

Arkansas native and Atlanta Hawk Joe Johnson will serve as honorary chairman.  Johnson is a five-time NBA All-Star and currently plays guard for the Atlanta Hawks.

Windstream Arkansas YES! sports expo and summer camps fair, going on from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (April 30) at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, is a day of family fun where parents can plan their kids' entire summer and youth ages 4-12 can compete in individual sports competitions. Admission is $5 per person and $2 per youth competition.

'Real Deal in the Rock'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- It's billed as one of the country's largest basketball tournaments, and it keeps getting bigger every year.

The "Real Deal in the Rock" includes nine divisions for boys 9/Under, 10/Under, 11/Under, 12/Under, 13/Under, 14/Under, 15/Under, 16/Under and 17/Under. Teams are from around the country; the event is even stealing a few teams from larger cities such as Houston.

The games continue through Sunday at basketball courts around the city. For a list of game times and locations, you can go to their website.
