Roller Derby double-header

Roller Derby double-header

Central Arkansas Roller Derby (CARD) presents its Season 5 opener on August 6, 2011, with a double-header against Tornado Alley Roller Girls from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Portions of the proceeds from this night will benefit the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

CARD’s Rock-n-Renegades and Junior Varsity Rock-n-Renegades will battle it out on the track beginning at 7pm at Skate World. Admission cost is $12 at the door, $10 pre-sale. Kids 10 and under get in free.

Drinks and concessions will be available for purchase, and half-time entertainment will be provided by Josh the Devil and the Sinners. Doors open at 6:30pm, so arrive early to get track-side seating. Warning: skaters may end up in the laps of spectators!

This game begins an exciting year for CARD, which will make a special announcement at half-time.

Skate World is located at 6512 Mabelvale Cut Off in Little Rock.

MAUMELLE, Ark. -- Some may be looking for some fun adventures now that the fourth of July festivities are over.  With all the natural resources available in central Arkansas there is no need to worry.

If you enjoy canoe riding and kayaking, the Big Maumelle River is ready to show you a good time this weekend.  Saturday, July 9 is their "Evening Canoe Float," which comes complete with your very own park interpreter to guide you through the waters.  Guests are required to meet at the Big Maumelle boat launch and experience the serenity of twilight as it slowly changes into a peaceful moonlit night.

The launch commences at 7:00 p.m.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Daniel Schults of Pine Bluff leads the field of anglers with a 5.63 pound bass he caught in the Dumas pool.  Schults caught the fish in the 9 a.m. hour to take the overall lead on the first day of the three-day tournament.


When asked about the experience, Schults, who spent the morning fishing with his father Wayne said, “I was fishing hard.”  This was the second time the younger Schults had fished the Dumas pool.


Leaders in the other four pools are:

•  Jason Deblock of Vilonia (4.87) – Little Rock pool

•  Martin Arnold of Ft. Smith (5.36) – Fort Smith pool

•  David Wood of Dardanelle (5.54) – Dardanelle pool

•  Eric Green of Pine Bluff (5.49) – Pine Bluff pool



The top fish wins the guaranteed $50,000. Each of the other four pool leaders has the potential to win a guaranteed $10,000 for catching the

largest fish in each of the other pools during the tournament.

June 10-12 is the official "Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend" according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commision Fishing Guidebook 2011.  Residents and nonresidents may fish this weekend without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed.  Several new changes have occured on fishing limits, so visit http://www.agfc.com/resources/GuidebookDocs/fish2011p07-11.pdf for more information on current regulations.  

Kids’ Fishing Day at the Commission’s five fish hatcheries is Saturday, June  11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
