Alliance Rubber Company hosting students for National Manufacturing Day

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - The world’s largest manufacturer of rubber bands is hosting an event on October 2 in celebration of National Manufacturing Day.

The Alliance Rubber Company is giving the public a chance to see the inner-workings of manufacturing. During the event, sixth graders from Fountain Lake School will have the opportunity to tour the facility, learn about manufacturing and hear about career opportunities in the manufacturing field.

The students will arrive at 9 a.m. on Friday to the Alliance Rubber Company facility located at 210 Carpenter Dam Road in Hot Springs.

Amy Fecher, deputy director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, will be one of the speakers during the event, and Assistant Hot Springs Mayor Rick Ramick will be in attendance. 
 

21st Annual "Tales of the Crypt"

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Mount Holly Cemetery Association and Parkview Arts-Science Magnet High School are pleased to announce the 21st Annual "Tales of the Crypt" at Mount Holly Cemetery on October 13.

From 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., watch as history comes alive right in the middle of Little Rock. This year's presentation will feature student actors recreating the lives of Arkansans who have helped shape Little Rock's history.  The students have researched each character and prepared original scripts for the performance under the direction of Tamara Zinck.  Award-winning local costumer Debi Manire will once again provide the historical characters' costumes.

This free event is sponsored by the Mount Holly Cemetery Association and LRSD Parkview Arts-Science Magnet High School

Donations will be accepted, and all of the proceeds go to the maintenance of the Mount Holly Cemetery.

New UCA writing professors to hold ArtsFest reading

CONWAY, Ark. — As part of the Conway Alliance for the Arts’ annual ArtsFest celebration, the newest faculty members in the University of Central Arkansas Department of Writing, will share their work in a reading hosted by the Faulkner County Library.

Sandy Longhorn and Jennie Case will read at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

Longhorn’s most recent book, The Alchemy of My Mortal Form, won the 2014 Louise Bogan Award from Trio House Press, and she teaches creative writing. She additionally co-edits the online journal Heron Tree. Case, who teaches creative and professional writing, has appeared in many journals, including North American Review, Zone 3, English Journal, and Poet Lore. Her appearance in Stone Canoe received the 2014 Allen and Nirelle Galson Prize in Fiction, and she is assistant nonfiction editor of terrain.org.

Magic Screams at Magic Springs weekends beginning Oct. 11 through Nov. 1

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Magic Springs is bringing back its annual “Magic Screams” Halloween event. 

Beginning on October 10 and continuing through November 1, the park will be open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays for the public to experience a good scream for Halloween.  

Several of the park’s rides will be open, including X-Coaster, The Gauntlet, Wild Thang, Big Bad John, Ozark Mountain Taxi Co., Razorback Roundup (enclosed with black light paint), the Carousel and the kiddie rides.

“We have the largest Halloween event in the state, possibly in the region and want our visitors to enjoy every bit of it,” said General Manager Steve Honeycutt.

CADC to distribute USDA commodities in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. - Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute USDA Commodities Thursday, September 17 beginning at 9 a.m. in Pulaski County.  

The food items to be distributed may include Pink Salmon, Cranberry Sauce, Vegetable Soup, Spaghetti Sauce, Potato Flakes, Vegetarian Beans, Peanut Butter and Apple Juice.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Mosaic Templars Cultural Center's Creativity Arkansas collection plans to feature works from African American artists who share a connection with Arkansas. 

The theme of this year's collection is "Ancestral Landascapes: From Africa to Arkansas." 

The exhibit will open on September 17 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
