Wal-Mart sets sights on Little Rock for new Neighborhood Market

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville is nearly always looking to add to its stable of discount stores, grocery stores and warehouse clubs. Now, there's more signs that the world's largest retailer is about to set up a shop in a part of Little Rock that's in need of a new grocery store.

Arkansas Business has been reporting word on the pending deal since last year, when it first heard that Wal-Mart was scouting sites for its Neighborhood Market stores. The stores are smaller than Wal-Mart's discount stores and Supercenters and focus on grocery and pharmacy items.

Now, Arkansas Business learned that Wal-Mart will have the paperwork signed by the end of July to move into what was the one-time home of Harvest Foods in the Riverdale Shopping Center.

The shopping center, once known as the Razorback Square Shopping Center, also includes a movie theater, an Office Depot and a Whole Hog Cafe.

The former Riverdale Harvest Foods store, at 2510 Cantrell Road, closed in 2008.
