2011 Puppy Up! Walk

2011 Puppy Up! Walk
It began with a promise to raise awareness of canine cancer one mile, one city, and one person at time. Luke Robinson with his two dogs walked 2000 miles from Austin to Boston to fulfill the promise he made to his dog Malcolm who died from this horrible disease.

2 Million Dogs was formed on the belief that if 2 dogs can walk 2000 miles to bring awareness to cancer surely 2 million dogs can walk 2 miles.

Are we over-vaccinating our pets?

Are we over-vaccinating our pets?

Are we over-vaccinating our pets?  Over the last few years, pet owners, veterinarians, researchers, and manufacturers have all been asking this question.  And, we may not know all the answers right now.  But, we'll talk about a few key points when considering which vaccinations your pet should receive, and how often they are needed.

1.  Some vaccines are effective when given every 3 years, and some must be given annually to be effective.  The difference is the length of time your pet will hold antibodies against that particular virus or bacteria.  Boosters are needed to re-activate your pet's immune system, but your pet may not need boosters for every disease on an annual basis.

2.  Your pet's lifestyle will determine which vaccines are needed on a regular basis.  In general, most veterinarians categorize vaccines as "core" vaccines which are important for all pets regardless of lifestyle (an example is Rabies), and "n

Why purchase heartworm preventative from vet?

Why purchase heartworm preventative from vet?

Why should you purchase your pet's heartworm preventative from a veternarian instead of an internet pharmacy?

There is a very, very simple answer!  The pharmaceutical companies that make heartworm preventatives will guarantee their products when you purchase from your veterinarian, but will not guarantee products purchased through Internet pharmacies.  We know that nothing in life is 100%, and the same is true of heartworm preventatives.  Regular and consistent use of heartworm prevention remains our best tactic in the battle against heartworm disease, but it is possible, though rare, for a pet who is on heartworm prevention to contract the disease.

If your pet tests positive for heartworms, and your veterinary records indicate consistent use of preventatives and annual heartworm testing, then the pharmaceutical company is willing to pay toward your pet's treatment expenses, offsetting the cost significantly.  We have

Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest

Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest

It's that time of the year again where I get to have my very own contest - Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest for all pets!

My friends at Bedford Camera & Video have generously produced a beautiful coffee mug and mouse pad for the winners to choose from. Now, because I think every pet is cute I randomly select the winners each week.  It is very important when you upload your photo to Today's THV website, include name of pet and where you live in the description. Eleven winners will be selected during the month of July and shown on Today's THV Morning Show.

This contest is for Arkansas residents only. Thanks for playing along! -- Joey

Joey's Cool Cats: Sweet Sage

Joey's Cool Cats: Sweet Sage

Sage has a pretty, thick grey and black tabby coat and gorgeous yellow eyes. She loves to be held and will make a wonderful lap cat. She is at Little Rock Animal Village, 4500 Kramer Street in Little Rock (off South University behind ITT Tech.)

Each spring is considered “kitten season".  Thousands of newborn kittens will join the millions of cats already in shelters across the country and this breaks my little kitty heart. That means your local shelter will have tons of adorable newborns, as well as, older cats still looking for a forever home. Take it from me - cats are really cool.  And if you haven't already, please have your cat spayed or neutered.   -- Joey

Joey's Cool Cats: Katie

Katie is an older cat. She is very sweet and needs a new home quickly. As an older cat she needs to live out her days in a quite loving enviornment.
