LITTLE ROCK – Half of the 2011 Junior Olympic Shotgun Team is from Arkansas.

Those five also are current or recent members of teams that compete in the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program, created and managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The announcement came in late January from USA Shooting, the governing body of Olympic shooting events.

“This is a great honor for student athletes involved in the sport of trap shooting, and is the first stage on the road to achieving an Olympic dream,” said Chuck Woodson, AYSSP coordinator.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Dr. Bettye McDonald Caldwell, a national pioneer in early childhood development who earned a Ladies Home Journal “Woman of the Year” award in 1978, will be present at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, when UALR officials unveil her portrait and dedicate the new Dr. Bettye M. Caldwell Early Childhood Development Classroom.

The oil portrait by Little Rock artist Betty Dortch McMath will be unveiled in the lobby of Dickinson Hall, which houses UALR’s College of Education.

"It is fitting not only that we commemorate Dr. Caldwell's work as a pioneer in education but that we unveil this portrait in doing so for she, herself, is in many ways an artist who helped children visualize their preferred futures,” said Dr. Angela M. Sewall, dean of UALR’s College of Education.
