Traffic Alert: Avoid I-430/I-630 interchange

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- 20 of lane shifts at the I-430 / I-630 interchange begin today, July 19.

As the $125 million project moves forward, seven lane shifts are scheduled to take place.

The first change takes place at 9 a.m. Thursday, when crews shift the I-430 southbound lanes down to two. This will enable crews to restripe and begin the process of moving traffic to the adjacent collector/distributor road on the west side of the highway.

Once these lanes shifts are completed, the same process will be applied to the northbound lanes, with traffic narrowing to the collector/distributor road on the east side of the highway.

By early Saturday morning, all of the lane shifts will be completed for the duration of the 20 days. These closures will allow crews to hand beams over the southbound and northbound lanes.

Drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route, or plan at least an additional 10 to 15 minutes for your commute around the interchange.

"One accident could create a lot of delays through this project while these lane shifts are going on. That's why we say be safe," said Scott Bennett, the Director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.
