Despite weather, 23 patients receive free surgery | News
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Despite all the winter weather chaos, 23 patients in Little Rock received joint replacements Saturday free of charge.
St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center hosted their third annual operation walk. Surgical teams volunteered their time to give 15 knee replacements and 8 hip replacements, giving patients a second chance at walking.
Doctor Lowry Barnes, and orthopedic surgeon at St. Vincent. said that even though the weather has complicated things, the patients are receiving the best service possible.
"We want things done exactly right all day, every day. This hospital is just another day. These people are getting the best service we can provide for them," he said.
All surgeries were made possible by Operation Walk USA, which started 10 years ago. With 70 facilities in the US providing this service, Arkansas has the largest quantity.
