Tech Park Board hears from engineers on 3 locations

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- All three possible locations for the Little Rock Technology Park remain in play. After months of trying to narrow down locations, the Technology Park Board heard from Crafton Tull Engineering Wednesday afternoon about three locations.

The board will decide between 701 Collins Street, the southwest corner of Asher Avenue and University Avenue, and a stretch of property on the 1900 block of John Barrow Road.

The engineering firm released a preliminary report to the board saying all three sites are too small and need to be at least 40 acres to sustain the proposed 1 million square foot facility.

Jerry Kelso told THV 11 this recommendation was based solely on the criteria given to the firm by the board.

Board member, CJ Duvall, said he believes the property acreage will not be a deciding factor and that the project can be adapted to any of the three locations.

"Didn't have any major concerns, I think one of the factors that came out tonight was questions around environment viability, and I think there's some research that's going to be required, at least two of the three sites to investigate environmental issues that may be there," said Duvall.

Both the University Ave. / Asher Ave. location and the John Barrow property have waterways and will require environmental studies.

The board is expected to look deeper into the presentations, meet with stakeholders and narrow the list down to one location during their March meeting.
