Garland County hosts Zombie Fun Run 5k

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - United Way of Garland County is hosting a Zombie Fun Run 5K on October 31, 2015 at Cedar Glades Park located at 461 Wildcat Road.

The Fun Run is sponsored by Shop Oh Snap! Boutique, Bennett’s Auto Service, FBC Fitness and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. The route will involve a few walls to climb over, a log to jump over, zombies to avoid and a variety of elevations.

Early registration is $25 per person and ends on September 30, 2015. Late registration will end October 28, 2015 and is $30 per person. The check in will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. The first 250 who register will receive a goody bag and a t-shirt.

Prior to the race, the Hot Springs Beauty College will do zombie make-up for $5.00 per person. However, if an individual has their make-up done by the HSBC then they will be excluded from the costume contests.

"Feed the Funnel" to help feed local area families

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Volunteers are welcome to join in on the packing of 10,000 ready-to-eat meals going towards hungry families in the Little Rock area as part of a "Feed the Funnel" event. 

"Feed the Funnel" sponsored by United Way, Embassy Suites and the Arlington Hotel will be happening on Tuesday, September 29 at Embassy Suites. 

The event is open to volunteers from 3 years old and up. The practice of “Funnelology” involves grown-ups packaging the food while kids contribute art work to the design of the packages themselves. The volunteers will work one of two shifts. Those are the 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. shift or the  5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. shift, all of which will take place in the Grand Ballroom. Frequent time outs are thrown in for dancing to lively music.

Community Connections to kick off fall programs for kids with special needs

CONWAY, Ark. (Sept. 18, 2015) – Community Connections will kick off its fall extra-curricular programs for children with special needs and their families on Tuesday, September 22.

The programs, which are free of charge, will include theatre, music, art, flag football, cheerleading, martial arts, golf programs and an autism workshop.

“We believe ALL children deserve the opportunity to play sports and participate in the arts,” said Courtney Leach, director of Community Connections. “We adapt our programs for individual needs and utilize buddies to accommodate children so they can experience success and being part of a team.”

Four named Arkansas Teacher of the Year state finalists

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Four outstanding teachers were named 2016 Arkansas Teacher of the Year state finalists at a recognition event today with Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Johnny Key. 

“Selecting just four teachers from an exceptional group of talented educators was a difficult process,” Key said. “The four state finalists chosen, however, have demonstrated leadership, knowledge and the ability to inspire students in the classroom. I congratulate them, as well as their administrators and fellow educators.”

CADC to distribute USDA commodities in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. - Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute USDA Commodities Thursday, September 17 beginning at 9 a.m. in Pulaski County.  

The food items to be distributed may include Pink Salmon, Cranberry Sauce, Vegetable Soup, Spaghetti Sauce, Potato Flakes, Vegetarian Beans, Peanut Butter and Apple Juice.

Camp Aldersgate hosts 32nd Annual Fish Fry

Camp Aldersgate hosts 32nd Annual Fish Fry

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Camp Aldersgate is asking the public to save the date of October 11 for the 32nd Annual Fish Fry. 

On Sunday, October 11, be prepared to enjoy fried catfish, local entertainment, local merchants and fun activities for all ages at Camp Aldersgate located at 2000 Aldersgate Road in Little Rock. 

Festivities will begin at noon and will last until 3 p.m.

Parking will be available off-site with shuttle buses to and from Camp Aldersgate. 

Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Camp's year-round programs for youth with special needs and medical conditions and senior adults in a camping environment. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - MTCC is celebrating its 7th anniversary with a lunch 'n learn dedicated to our largest exhibit to date: "Freedom! Oh, Freedom!"

Special guest Mark Christ, community outreach director for Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, will present "An eagle on his button and a musket on his shoulder: Black Regiments in Civil War Arkansas."

The lunch 'n learn will be held on September 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
