LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The annual Certified Arkansas Farmers Market (CAFM) conference will be held in Little Rock this Saturday, February 26, at the Statehouse Convention Center.

This year, CAFM members have partnered with the 20th annual Arkansas Flower and Garden Show, the Arkansas Farmers Market Association and the Arkansas Food Policy Council; bringing together farmers, market managers, backyard gardeners and government officials to network and share ideas of interest that have an impact on our state agriculture.

CAFM activities kick off Saturday morning with registration from 7:15-8:00 at the Statehouse Convention Center.  All interested participants can register the morning of the conference.  Opening session begins at 8 a.m. with a presentation by Jody Hardin, president and executive director of CAFM.  Sessions throughout the day will include activities and discussions about growing and using herbs, diversified farming operation, organic gardening, backyard vegetable gardening, planning children’s activities at farmers’ markets, and seed swaps.  The conference concludes at 4:30 p.m.

Main Street Searcy has worked with CAFM for two years to operate the Searcy Farmers’ Market, located on the south side of Spring Park.  The market offers the community fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat and dairy products.  The 2011 market season is scheduled to begin Saturday, May 21, and run through September.  In addition to Saturday and Wednesday mornings, growers have decided to add a Monday evening market this year in order to accommodate their customers.  The market will be open on Saturday and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to noon, and Mondays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
