Camp Aldersgate's Hat Day fundraiser | Events
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Through the efforts and enthusiasm of one, dedicated youth volunteer the City of Bryant, AR will hold a “Hat Day” fundraiser on Friday, December 7th for Camp Aldersgate. Participants will pay one dollar for the privilege to wear a hat to work or school. Proceeds from this event will be given to Camp Aldersgate.
Riley Hall, age 18, is a senior at Bryant High School. Due to a health issue, he has had to give up sports activities. He began to look for ways to fill the void that was left. His mother suggested he should volunteer at Camp Aldersgate and he quickly became involved. Riley volunteered at Camp Aldersgate for the first time this past summer. Riley volunteered for 4 weeks of summer camp totaling 508 hours since June 2012. Riley was then hired on as a counselor for his 5th week of summer camp, and has already worked several weekend Respite camps this Fall. Riley says, “I found out there's life after sports. These children [at Camp Aldersgate] are in wheel chairs; they are dealing with cancer, and suffering from mental disabilities. Camp [Aldersgate] helped make these children feel special and helped them to do simple daily activities I took for granted. Sports isn’t everything anymore!” Read more about Riley’s story here: http://www.wyzant.com/scholarships/v3/essay62793-Bryant-AR.aspx

The following departments have committed to participating; Fire, Police, Public Works, Code Enforcement, Water Department, Animal Control and City Hall. Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs, “When leaders, young or old like Riley Hall take off with a vision to improve the quality of life for others we should rally around them with a spirit of unity to insure great success.” The 8 participating schools are as follows: Bryant High School, Bryant Middle School, Bethel Middle School, Bryant Elementary, Collegeville Elementary, Salem Elementary, Springhill Elementary and Hurricane Creek Elementary.
