Easter Seals to host free shredding event

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Easter Seas) -- Easter Seals RENEW Recycling is hosting a Community Shred Day in which individuals, schools, churches, and businesses can drop off their paper and secure documents at the Center for Training and Wellness, and we will shred/recycle for free. People can drop off old bank statements, tax returns, bill stubs, and e-waste such as old computers, phones, and printers.

As a thank you, coffee will be provided by Starbucks while volunteers unload your vehicle.

The Shred Day will be Saturday April 26 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 14901 Cantrell Road.

Rally against child abuse scheduled at Capitol

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Human Services' Division of Children and Family Service is to join child advocates, parents, judges, children, and others in a rally at the state Capitol against child abuse.

The rally is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the front steps of the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock and is intended to draw attention to child abuse and to present ways on how the abuse can be prevented.

Airbrushing Class

Central Arkansas Scale Modelers will be hosting an instructional class on how to use your airbrush on Saturday, May 10th beginning at 2pm at HobbyTown USA Little Rock. The class is free of charge.

If you would like to attend the class, please bring your airbrush,a model to paint, and your choice of paint and thinner. There will be a limited number of airbrushes available to use if you do not own one.

people to prepare for. The last day to sign up will be Wednesday, May 7th.

2nd annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival

Preparations are well underway for the 2nd Annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival. This event will be held on Saturday, May 17, at Burns Park’s Victory Lake.

All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Protection Center (CPC). The CPC is a non-profit child advocacy center housed in Little Rock. The CPC works with members of the Pulaski County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Team (MDT) to serve victims of child abuse and their families. The (MDT) is a comprehensive team which includes child protection personnel (DCFS), law enforcement professionals, child forensic interviewers, medical and mental health professionals, social workers, and victim assistance professionals (www.http://childrensprotectioncenter.org/)

Hundreds of residents from Little Rock and surrounding communities will join together for Walk MS: Central Arkansas 2014 on Saturday, April 12 at the Little Rock River Market to make a powerful statement and keep moving toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. Walk MS: Central Arkansas is a signature fundraising event for the National MS Society that raises funds to support MS research and provide services to individuals impacted by multiple sclerosis. The Society strives to raise $100,000 this year from Little Rock-area partners and participants to drive research for a cure and support vital programs and services that serve more than 6,800 Arkansans affected by multiple sclerosis, including more than 3,000 diagnosed with the disease.

Tax Delinquent Land Sale Scheduled for Pulaski County

LITTLE ROCK, Ark (CSL) – A public auction for the sale of tax delinquent land in Pulaski County will be held at the Verizon Arena- Meeting Room 1A & 1B in North Little Rock on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., according to John Thurston, Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. 

Recent legislation has affected the procedures for the sale of tax delinquent properties and purchasers should take the time to review the changes prior to the auction dates.  The Commissioner of State Lands provides a Catalog of Tax Delinquent Lands which contains the current statutes governing the sales, auction dates, times, location and other pertinent information regarding parcels being offered.  The catalog can be found on the Commissioner’s website at www.cosl.org  or is available in print form by mail.
