Little Rock police say George Gray, 41, was arrested in connection with an incident involving a student in December of 2010.

Gray, who was director of admissions at Philander Smith College at the time, was arrested on charges of producing, directing, or promoting a sexual performance of a child and second degree sexual assault.

According to the police report, Gray allegedly called a female student into his office and asked her to strip at a party for his fraternity. When she refused and tried to leave, the report says Gray bent her over the desk and sexually assaulted her.

Gray is out of jail on 20,000 bond.

An official statement was issued by Philander Smith College through the office of Shareese Kondo, Director of Public Relations and Marketing:

Philander Smith College addressed the claims of a student who accused a staff member of unprofessional behavior.  We took the complaint seriously and our administrative team immediately conducted an internal investigation, which resulted in the staff member tendering a resignation. The incident was reported to the Little Rock Police Department, resulting in the former staff member’s arrest yesterday.

“The safety and security of our students is a high priority at Philander Smith College.  We will always consider any claim of sexual misconduct by any person on our campus as a very serious matter,” said Chief Jack Matlock, chief of security at the campus.

In order to comply with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, Philander Smith College can reveal no further details concerning this matter.
