Little Rock cracking down on distracted driving

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Police across central Arkansas are planning to crack down on distracted driving this week.

Around a dozen agencies will be in marked and unmarked cars, and they are looking specifically for drivers distracted by cell phones.

Police across central Arkansas are getting ready for Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement.

Starting this week, they'll be looking for distracted drivers.

While most drivers admit it's dangerous, many still spend extensive time looking down at their devices while using apps like Facebook and Pandora.

"I see people passing the school busses because they are on the phone, and they don't notice the dangers they're putting these children in," said one local man.

"I wish they had something to be turned on by themselves to not allow them to be accessed or even just messed with while [they're] driving," remarked another Little Rock resident.

Pulaski County Deputy, Sean O'Nale, says the deputies are not the bad guys, either.

"It's simply an effort to get them to pay more attention and to get them to live to see another day," said O'Nale.
