Details on necropsy report released for dogs found dead on side of road

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Earlier this week, Little Rock police said they were investigating an animal cruelty case after two dogs were found dead on the side of the road.

The dogs, Stella and Tao, had disappeared Sunday morning and were found on Cantrell Road the same evening.

The officer narrative in the police report detailed that one dog had what appeared to be a severely broken jaw, and a possible gunshot wound to the abdomen area, while the other dog appeared as if she had been shot in the head.

On Thursday, THV11 received information from Lt. Sidney Allen that a necropsy report found no evidence of gunshot wounds. He said the injuries they suffered appeared to be consistent with those expected from being struck by a car.

Additionally, Lt. Allen said a detective spoke with a paper carrier who says he saw the deceased dogs in the street Sunday and moved them to the side of the road to prevent further damage to them.

THV11's Alyssa Raymond spoke with Stella and Tao's owners earlier in the week who, after originally believing they had been shot, thought the situation could have been linked to recent break-ins in their neighborhood.

Lt. Allen said in an email to THV11, "While I know we are all sad for the dogs and their loving owners, I'm sure some of you will be reassured to not have to worry about some sadistic individual running loose."

He also said, "Thank you for the tips and information that you called in, there is no such thing as too much information in a 'whodunit' case."
