Central Arkansas Roller Derby

LITTLE ROCK, AR -  Central Arkansas Roller Derby (CARD) presents “Invasion of the Derby Snatcher.”  CARD returns home during its fourth season of women's flat track roller derby on Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Little Rock.  A portion of the proceeds of this exciting home game will be donated to the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

CARD’s varsity team, the Varsity Rock-N-Renegades, will bout the skaters from Tulsa Derby League (TDL) from Tulsa, Oklahoma. TDL edged out the Rock-N-Renegades in the semi-finals of the first-ever roller derby tournament in Arkansas in June 2010; CARD will be playing for sweet revenge.

Mayor's Youth Council to receive grant

Mayor's Youth Council to receive grant

On Monday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the City Hall Rotunda, a representative from the State Farm Insurance Agency will give the Mayor’s Youth Council a check for $2,500. This money will help the members of the Mayor’s Youth Council visit one of Little Rock’s Sister Cities to learn more about other cultures and how they can develop new ideas to improve their community.

Students in the Little Rock Mayor’s Youth Council participate in various monthly volunteer and community service projects throughout the city. In 2010, approximately 150 students have volunteered at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Arkansas Arts Center, Wildwood Park for the Arts, Our House Shelter and many other volunteer activities.
