2nd annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival

Author: Lacey Burba

Preparations are well underway for the 2nd Annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival. This event will be held on Saturday, May 17, at Burns Park’s Victory Lake.

All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Protection Center (CPC). The CPC is a non-profit child advocacy center housed in Little Rock. The CPC works with members of the Pulaski County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Team (MDT) to serve victims of child abuse and their families. The (MDT) is a comprehensive team which includes child protection personnel (DCFS), law enforcement professionals, child forensic interviewers, medical and mental health professionals, social workers, and victim assistance professionals (www.http://childrensprotectioncenter.org/)

Teams of 20 rowers and one drummer race on the water against each other in 46-foot-long Hong Kong-style dragon boats.

‘THV11 in Your Town’ feature: Arkadelphia

‘THV11 in Your Town’ feature: Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (KTHV) – For my second THV 11 in My Town feature, I headed out to Arkadelphia for a day and found quite a few great things to highlight.

ARKADELPHIA ALLIANCE AND DEMOGRAPHICS

First, I stopped by the Arkadelphia Alliance (Arkadelphia Regional Economic Development Alliance and Area Chamber of Commerce if you’re not into that whole brevity thing). There, executive vice president Shelley Loe talked to me about some of the great features in Arkadelphia and what the city had to offer.

If you’re into numbers, the city is home to around 10,714 citizens with 3,736 households as of the 2010 census. (See demographics info: http://on.kthv.com/1hwqnsh) It also offers two accredited 4-year institutions – Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University, and the area is home to three school districts—Arkadelphia, Gurdon, and Centerpoint.

Public invited to Jump Start 12th Street Community Visioning workshop

Public invited to Jump Start 12th Street Community Visioning workshop

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (LR) – 12th Street area residents are invited to make their voices heard at the next Jump Start 12th Street visioning workshop, Monday, March 31. Residents who are invested in the outcome of this neighborhood in the next five, ten or twenty years should attend this Jump Start visioning workshop.

The City of Little Rock recently received a $200,000 grant from Imagine Central Arkansas Partners (ICAP) to help continue revitalization on 12th Street. In October, ICAP selected five neighborhoods to receive planning assistance to focus on implementing a vision for their communities. Each site was awarded federally funded individual consultant-led planning assistance to build specific development concept plans that include market analyses, form-based development codes, guidance on infrastructure investments, feasibility analysis and implementation process.

"With You" Campaign Soon to End

"With You" Campaign Soon to End

With the upcoming end of the With You fundraising campaign, on behalf of the cast, crew, and production team, we wanted to thank each and every one of the viewers that have contributed and helped make this film possible. Also, please do not forget to like the "With You" facebook page, and help support the making of this film. All support is appreciated, and this film will be submitted to film festivals all over the United States, which means more publicity and recognition for the actors and crew of whom have made it possible to tell this cute, quirky romantic comedy, as well as the Arkansans of whom have made it possible with their support (in all ways). Again, please view the With You campaign with less than 8 days remaining, and many, many thanks to all who have made this wild venture possible.
