Free festival helps promote National Fire Prevention Week

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Free food, fun and family-oriented entertainment and demonstrations will be on deck during Fire Safety Day on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Clinton Presidential Center.

The Little Rock Fire Department will lead the annual event, a four-hour festival that aims to educate children and families about fire safety as part of National Fire Prevention Week, this year taking place Oct. 4 - 10. From sitting in the driver’s seat of a fire truck and operating a fire hose to meeting Molly the Fire Safety Dog, children will get the opportunity for hands-on learning at Fire Safety Day, which kicks off at 11 a.m.

29 Arkansas State Trooper recruits to graduate

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Twenty-nine Arkansas State Police Trooper Recruits will graduate at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 1. 

The graduation ceremony will occur at the second floor rotunda area of the State Capitol.

Governor Asa Hutchinson will address the graduating recruits and assist Colonel Bill Bryant, director of the Arkansas State Police, in the presentation of State Police Commissions and class certificates.

The Honorable Rhonda Wood, Associate Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court will administer the Oath of Commission.

Arkansas State Police Commanders, Arkansas State Police Commissioners and other state dignitaries will be among those present for the ceremony.

21st Annual "Tales of the Crypt"

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Mount Holly Cemetery Association and Parkview Arts-Science Magnet High School are pleased to announce the 21st Annual "Tales of the Crypt" at Mount Holly Cemetery on October 13.

From 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., watch as history comes alive right in the middle of Little Rock. This year's presentation will feature student actors recreating the lives of Arkansans who have helped shape Little Rock's history.  The students have researched each character and prepared original scripts for the performance under the direction of Tamara Zinck.  Award-winning local costumer Debi Manire will once again provide the historical characters' costumes.

This free event is sponsored by the Mount Holly Cemetery Association and LRSD Parkview Arts-Science Magnet High School

Donations will be accepted, and all of the proceeds go to the maintenance of the Mount Holly Cemetery.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - MTCC is celebrating its 7th anniversary with a lunch 'n learn dedicated to our largest exhibit to date: "Freedom! Oh, Freedom!"

Special guest Mark Christ, community outreach director for Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, will present "An eagle on his button and a musket on his shoulder: Black Regiments in Civil War Arkansas."

The lunch 'n learn will be held on September 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Tommy Terrific will present an educational magic show about famous "Black Cowboys of the Old West." 

The kids will learn about Bill Pickett who invented bulldogging as Tommy does a magic trick with a steer's skull. They will also learn about expert robber Nat Love and Mary Fields, who delivered mail in the Wild West. 

Tommy Terrific will create a world of excitement when he uses his magical lasso and a host of other tricks to highlight Black Americans of the Old West. 

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. There will be popcorn, prizes and more. All of the festivities will begin at noon on September 12.
